Let’s hear song ideas! Improve your ability to write, record, perform, and promote your own songs of any and all styles! Hone your songwriting skills by taking daily small-group instruction on piano and/or guitar, lyric writing, music theory, and arranging. Learn how to use software programs like Pro Tools and GarageBand. Develop successful means of marketing both you and your music through the Internet and other “grassroots”-oriented tactics. Participate in “hands-on” recording sessions and refine your live performance skills with the guidance of the renowned faculty and alumni of Purchase College. Receive a DVD of the final performance!
To broaden exposure to the arts, the Songwriting Workshop can be combined with the Creative Vocal Lab, Choral Conservatory, Jazz Workshop, Project Fashion Designer, 20th Annual Visual Arts Institute, Photography Institute, Creative Writing Institute, and/or Shakespeare Workshop (new!) make for a well-rounded summer experience.

David Gluck (lead instructor) is an assistant professor of music in the Conservatory of Music’s studio composition program at Purchase College. He is a founding member of Madera Vox and the internationally renowned Rhythm & Brass, critically acclaimed by The New York Times, Entertainment Weekly, and Downbeat. His work has been featured on the BET Network and NPR and in Jazz Player Magazine and published by Universal Editions. He has eight recordings on the Koch, Summit, d’note, Bear Claw, and Skinny Tie labels. Mr. Gluck is a featured performer and clinician throughout the U.S. and abroad, sponsored by Yamaha, Zildjian, and Innovative Percussion.
Andrew Fox (instructor) is a songwriter, composer, producer, and educator working in film, theatre, and popular music. He has scored two award-winning films for Arcadia Creative and written arrangements and orchestrations for multiple plays and studio recordings. Mr. Fox recently released his self-produced solo EP, Disco Institute. Two films containing his work will be released in the spring: Solomon Grundy: Born on a Monday, featuring two of his original songs, and Thunderstruck, which he orchestrated and produced.
Blake Reynolds (instructor) received his MM (studio composition concentration) from Purchase College in May 2010. Since then, he has been pursuing a career in game composition and songwriting. His first published work, the soundtrack to an iPhone game “100 Rogues,” was released in summer 2010. He is currently working on the soundtrack to its unofficial sequel for Android phones.
Tom Rosato (instructor) graduated from Purchase College with a MusB in studio composition and an MM (studio composition concentration; May 2012). As a professional music producer and recording/live engineer, Mr. Rosato has been working in renowned recording studios and venues for more than 10 years and has worked with countless industry professionals and artists in both the live and studio audio arenas. As a producer, he has co-written and produced records for many artists.
