NEW! Shakespeare Workshop

Shakespeare

Grades 9–12

About the Instructors

Act and interpret Shakespeare under the guidance of professional actors and directors. In-depth classes in acting, voice, movement, dance, and stage combat teach students to analyze and understand the characters and language of Shakespeare and effectively bring the words to life. Guest artists will participate in informal lecture/performances. Two full texts (one comedy, one tragedy) will be cast, read aloud, and discussed within the two-week session. For those who are interested, instructors will also offer training in choosing an appropriate monologue and in audition technique, which are useful professionally and for college entrance auditions.

Invite family and friends to the final performance of directed scenes, monologues, and sonnets from the canon of Shakespeare’s works. Each student will receive a DVD of the performance.

To broaden exposure to the arts, the Shakespeare Workshop can be combined with the Songwriting Workshop, Creative Vocal Lab, Project Fashion Designer, Creating Comic Books and Graphic Novels, Acting Intensive, and/or Filmmaking Institute to make for a well-rounded summer experience.

$1,045 for the second registration in the family, Purchase College employees and alumni, and early registrations (received by May 4, 2012)
