Summer 2016 Precollege Programs in the Arts:
Shakespeare Workshop

Grades 6–12

Shakespeare Workshop

Typical day
Location: Dance Bldg., Room 1027 (Studio G)

Act and interpret Shakespeare under the guidance of professional actors and directors. Work on acting, voice, movement, dance, and stage combat to analyze and understand the characters and language of Shakespeare and effectively bring the words to life. Two full texts (one comedy, one tragedy) will be cast, read aloud, and discussed within the two-week session. For those who are interested, instructors will also offer training in choosing an appropriate monologue and in audition technique, which are useful professionally and for college entrance auditions.

Invite family and friends to the final performance of directed scenes, monologues, and sonnets from the canon of Shakespeare’s works. Each student will receive a DVD of the performance.

To broaden exposure to the arts, the Shakespeare Workshop can be combined with the Acting Intensive, Filmmaking Institute, Project Fashion Designer, Songwriting Workshop, Creative Vocal Lab, 3-D Video Game and Makers Lab Creations (new!), Code Breakers and App Designers, Architecture Intensive, and/or Neu Curators (new!) to make for a well-rounded summer experience. (Refer to youth programs for students in grades 6–8.)

Session III: July 25–August 5
Monday–Friday, 9:30 a.m.–3:30 a.m.
$1,200 for the first registration
$1,080 for the second registration in the family, Purchase College employees and alumni, and early registrations (received by May 6, 2016)
