The Journalism Institute is an intensive two-week precollege program that develops skills in basic reporting, interviewing, writing, editing, and publishing practices. The program emphasizes hands-on journalism experience and will culminate in the launching of the Institute blog. Students will conduct interviews and learn to create powerful images with words applying learned investigative and analytical skills. Verbal, written, and grammatical skills are developed in an imaginative and creative environment. Accomplished instructors will help you build your portfolio or offer a constructive critique of your existing one.

  • Each student’s best work will be published in the Institute blog.
  • Students have access to a College computer lab—one student per computer.

To broaden exposure to the arts, the Journalism Institute can be combined with the Creative Writing Institute, 18th Annual Visual Arts Institute, Photography Institute, Musical Theatre Institute, Shakespeare Institute, or Jazz Workshop to make for a well-rounded summer experience!
