New! Advanced Musical Theatre Song and Scene Study

**CLOSED**

Grades 9–12*

Typical Day

A more in-depth exploration of the musical theatre canon, in which you will receive instruction in acting, voice, and dance specifically geared to musical theatre performance. The classes are led by experienced teachers who are accomplished theatre professionals able to guide you in scene study, character development, and “acting the song.” During the four-week session, there will be three master classes taught by working professionals from New York City: a day of dance with a master choreographer; an audition session with a New York casting director; and a day of direction from a working professional director of musicals. On the final Friday, the body of work that has been studied during the session will be performed in Purchase College’s Performing Arts Center. Students will receive a DVD of their final performance. All family and friends are invited to this performance.

*Please note: A student entering eighth grade who has taken Youth Musical Theatre in previous years may take Advanced Musical Theatre Song and Scene Study with permission of the instructor.

To broaden exposure to the arts, Advanced Musical Theatre Song and Scene Study can be combined with the Songwriting Workshop or Video Game Creators and Animators to make for a well-rounded summer experience.
