New! Minecraft™ Designers and 3-D Video Game Creators

3-d gmes illustrationGrades 4–9

Understand the elements of creating and designing your first
3-D video game. Go beyond the limitations of the traditional 2-D game design and learn the physics behind 3-D games. Explore beginner event scripting, level design, controlling flow of game play, and storytelling. Use this knowledge to design your own characters and buildings for your Minecraft™ games. Learn the basics of creating 3-D modeling, using new industry-grade software to import them into your favorite Minecraft™ games.

  • Students must have Minecraft™ at home to import characters. (A parent’s email address is required to create student accounts.)
  • The Minecraft Designer curriculum is compatible with any desktop (and laptop) version of Minecraft software that is for a PC or Mac computer. Recently, Minecraft has come out with a version of their software for the Xbox 360 and mobile tablets/phones. These versions of Minecraft are not compatible with the desktop software we will use in the class. Since at the present time, the mobile and desktop files are not compatible, students must purchase the PC/Mac version of the software before they can continue to edit/play their maps from home.
  • No previous experience is necessary.

For grade 9 (refer to youth programs for students in grades 4–8):
To broaden exposure to the arts, Minecraft™ Designers and 3-D Video Game Creators can be combined with Video Game Creators and Animators, Code Breakers and App Designers (new!), the Songwriting Workshop, Vocal Intensive, and/or Shakespeare Workshop to make for a well-rounded summer experience.

Session II: July 14–25

$1,165 for the first registration
$1,048.50 for the second registration in the family, Purchase College employees and alumni, and early registrations (received by May 2, 2014)
