The annual Summer Visual Arts Institute offers a unique opportunity for high school students to work with practicing artists in a variety of media at Purchase College’s School of Art+Design. Now in its 16th year, the Institute will run Monday–Thursday for four weeks in Summer 2008. Registration is limited to students, ages 15–18, who have completed their freshman year of high school. Both new and returning students are welcome.

Curriculum and Schedule
Led by a team of accomplished artists, the Summer Visual Arts Institute is a series of focused workshops designed to give high school students experience in technique and materials in a variety of disciplines. While both enjoyable and challenging for students wanting to dedicate more elective time to the visual arts, the Institute is ideal for those who plan to continue their studies in college.

Each day, all students attend two master workshops in the morning and then devote the afternoon period to an elective of their choice. The Institute culminates with an exhibition of student work for family members and invited guests on Thursday, July 31.

Certificate
Each completing student will receive a letter of certification that outlines the curriculum and time spent in class. Former students have presented the certificate for consideration in their high schools and when applying for college admission.
