Senior Citizen AuditorSenior Citizen Auditors

New York State residents who are at least 60 years of age are welcome to enroll tuition-free as a “special auditor" each semester, including summer session, in a maximum of two credit-bearing, on-campus courses in which space is available to special auditors. Please note that course and space availability vary.

Senior citizen auditors must pay the following nonrefundable fees at the time of registration:

  • $50 special auditor’s fee
  • Student ID card processing fee (if you have a More Card, please bring it with you for renewal): $15 for Summer 2014; $20 for Fall 2014
  • Lab fees, if applicable (refer to the course description)
  • Paid separately: You must obtain your academic-year or summer session parking decal at the Parking and Transportation Office (Campus Center North, Room 1014). Please refer to Parking on Campus for information on parking fees.

Senior Citizen Auditor Registration Dates

SUMMER 2014:
  • Session II: Thurs., June 12
  • Session III: Wed., June 11
  • Session IV: Wed., July 9

FALL 2014: Tues., Sept. 2

To register as a senior citizen auditor:

  1. Use the online course search to find your desired course(s). Refer to the course search instructions in the myHeliotrope Student User Guide for tips on finding courses.
     
  2. Please have alternate courses selected in case the courses you are interested in auditing have been closed to further enrollment.
     
  3. In-person registration for senior citizen auditors takes place at 9 a.m. on the dates above at the Office of Enrollment Services (Student Services Building, first floor).
     
  4. Online registration for senior citizen auditors begins at 8 a.m. on the same dates:
     
    1. If you are returning as a senior citizen auditor to Purchase College, proceed to step (e) below.
       
    2. If you are a new senior citizen auditor at Purchase College, complete the online Student Data Form and submit it. Refer to the Student Data Form instructions for assistance.
       
    3. After completing the online Student Data Form, proceed with instructions to activate your Purchase user name and password. To successfully create your password, be sure to follow all rules (i.e., number, capital letter, symbol).
       
    4. If at any point you do not recall your Purchase user name and password, please reset your password at my.purchase.edu.
       
    5. Go to my.purchase.edu and click on MyHeliotrope, located in the top left corner on the page. Enter your Purchase user name and password, click on the “Student” box and go to “Registration,” then to “Add or Drop Classes.” Refer to the non-degree student registration instructions in the myHeliotrope Student User Guide as needed.

Grading
Senior citizen auditors do not receive grades or earn college credits, but are encouraged to discuss expectations for class participation and work assignments with the faculty after senior citizen auditor registration.

PLEASE NOTE: If you want to…

  • earn college credit; and/or
  • guarantee space in a particular credit course; and/or
  • enroll in noncredit courses; and/or
  • enroll in hybrid or online courses; and/or
  • use the Physical Education facilities

… you must register and pay full tuition and fees during the regular registration period. Senior citizens may not subsequently drop credit courses and request to audit them on a tuition-free basis during senior citizen auditor registration.
