About the Certificate Program

Established in 1985 and online since 2010, this certificate program was the foundation of one of the most popular and respected majors at Purchase College. The noncredit certificate program in arts management—identical to the credit program except without grades and the internship component—is designed to provide students with an understanding of management, marketing, arts and entertainment law, and fundraising and development in arts-related organizations. It is particularly suited for:

  1. new arts administrators who want to broaden their knowledge and skills.
  2. professionals who are considering a career transition to arts management.
  3. artists who are interested in starting their own nonprofit companies or joining existing organizations.
  4. board members and volunteers who want to become more informed and effective.

Earn your noncredit certificate in two semesters. Students may take individual courses without commitment to the entire program. All courses are normally offered online. Students who successfully complete the four required courses are awarded a certificate by the School of Liberal Studies & Continuing Education, reflecting 24 continuing education units (CEUs).

Note: Certificate programs must be completed within three years unless approved by the director of continuing education.

To qualify for the certificate, students must:

  1. submit a Certificate Form of Intent
  2. achieve a “Pass” designation in coursework from the instructors
  3. submit a Certificate Request Form after all requirements have been met
  4. submit a Professional Certificate Program Survey

It is also recommended that students visit www.purchase.edu/online to learn more about online learning at Purchase College.

Required Courses:

  1. Introduction to Arts Management
  2. Fundraising and Development in Arts
  3. Arts and Entertainment Law
  4. Marketing the Arts
