About the Certificate Program

Established in 1985 and online since 2010, the certificate program in arts management was the foundation of one of the most popular and respected majors at Purchase College. This certificate program is designed to provide students with an understanding of management, marketing, arts and entertainment law, and fundraising and development in arts-related organizations. It is particularly suited for:

  1. new arts administrators who want to broaden their knowledge and skills.
  2. professionals who are considering a career transition to arts management.
  3. artists who are interested in starting their own nonprofit companies or joining existing organizations.
  4. board members and volunteers who want to become more informed and effective.

The curriculum, which consists of four courses and an internship, can be completed in three semesters. Students may take individual courses without commitment to the entire program. All courses except the internship are normally offered online. Students pay the regular SUNY tuition and fees for credit courses.

Note: This certificate program is also offered on a noncredit basis at a reduced tuition rate. Please visit the noncredit certificate program site for details.

To qualify for the certificate, students must:

  1. be high school graduates
  2. submit a Certificate Form of Intent
  3. attend at least 80 percent of the classes
  4. achieve a grade of C or higher in certificate courses
  5. submit a Certificate Request Form after all requirements have been met
  6. submit a Professional Certificate Program Survey
