Liberal Studies Student Learning Outcomes

All liberal studies graduates will demonstrate:
  1. The ability to articulate and communicate clearly in written and spoken forms.
  2. Research skills, including the ability to analyze and synthesize information.
  3. Responsibility to others and our community.
  4. Respect, tolerance, and openness to new ideas and ways of thinking.
  5. The ability to think critically, independently, and creatively.

Graduates with majors in liberal studies: arts, liberal studies: communications/media studies, or liberal studies: legal studies have additional student learning outcomes (SLOs).

Graduates who majored in liberal studies: arts in will also demonstrate:

  1. Core knowledge of the field and related concepts, theories and ideas.
  2. An understanding of historical knowledge and events in the field.
  3. The ability to analyze different arts forms critically.
  4. An understanding of visual literacy and the power of images.

Graduates who majored in liberal studies: communications/media studies will also demonstrate:

  1. Core knowledge of the field and related concepts, theories and ideas.
  2. An understanding of historical knowledge and events in the field.
  3. The ability to analyze different media forms critically.
  4. An understanding of media’s influence of the psychology of individuals and groups.
  5. An understanding of the intersection of media, technology, and culture.

Graduates who majored in liberal studies: legal studies will also demonstrate:

  1. Core knowledge of the field and related concepts, theories and ideas.
  2. An understanding of historical knowledge and events in the field.
  3. The ability to analyze and apply the law and legal concepts.
