Ken Tabachnick began as dean of the School
of the Arts at Purchase College on July 1, 2010.
He has worked in all facets of the arts, with experience as an administrator, lighting
designer, consultant, producer, and legal counsel. As general manager for the New York
City Ballet, he was responsible for managing the largest dance organization in the country, including developing its long-term strategy, cultivating relationships with trustees, and overseeing a $60 million annual budget.

Prior to his time with the New York City Ballet, Mr. Tabachnick established a law firm where he represented the unique interests of performers, designers, producers, authors and filmmakers. As a lighting designer, Mr. Tabachnick has lighted prestigious companies, including the Paris Opera Ballet, Martha Graham Dance Company, New York City Ballet, New York City Opera, Pittsburgh Opera, Philadelphia Drama Guild, and Second Stage, as well as lighting in film and television. He has collaborated with such renowned artists as Trisha Brown, Stephen Petronio, Robert Wilson, Philip Glass, Karole Armitage, and Susan Marshall, and Bebe Miller. In 2005, he was honored with a Bessie Award for lighting design, recognizing his work with the choreographer Stephen Petronio.

Mr. Tabachnick earned his B.A. in theatre from the State University of New York at Buffalo and his J.D. from the Fordham University School of Law. He is currently resident lighting designer for the Stephen Petronio Company, a member of the Executive Committee of Dance/USA, and a member of the board of directors of the Gilbert V. Hemsley Lighting Internship.
