Purchase College Chorus Fall Concert: Trauer-Ode
(Part of 2nd Annual Bach Festival)
Monday, December 13, 8:00pm
Recital Hall (Conservatory of Music)
The second concert in the 2nd Annual Bach Festival series is with the Purchase College Chorus, David Recca, and the Purchase College Camerata, Bradley Brookshire, director. They will perform a special cantata that Bach composed to celebrate the life of Lutheran Germany's greatest heroine, Christiane Eberhardine, Consort of Augustus the Strong. Bach so treasured this cantata that he re-fashioned it into his now-lost "Passion According to St. Mark." The two other featured works are both glorious examples of the Baroque Motet, namely Bach's jubilant and downright ecstatic "Lobet den Herrn" and Schütz's haunting and other-worldly funeral canticle "Herr, nun lässest du deinen Diener." The proceeds from this concert support scholarships for music students. A donation of $10 is suggested.
