Trombonist Tim Albright enjoys a diverse freelance career as a performer and teacher in New York City. He can be heard frequently as a member of Steve Coleman’s band, Five Elements. He is trombonist for the Atlantic Brass Quintet, Riverside Symphony and Argento New Music Project, and is currently a member of the orchestra of the acclaimed Broadway revival of West Side Story. Tim has played with the Maria Schneider Jazz Orchestra, The Knights, with jazz trumpeter Ralph Alessi, jazz clarinetist Don Byron, and with such popular artists as Sufjan Stevens, Rufus Wainwright, The National, Antony and the Johnsons, Martha Wainwright, Kate and Anna McGarrigle, and Last Shadow Puppets. He has been heard in numerous Broadway productions, including Spamalot, The Producers, A Chorus Line, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Legally Blonde and Fosse.

Besides a busy live performing schedule, Tim spends a fair amount of time in the recording studio. He has recorded music for television and film, as well as for artists such as International Contemporary Ensemble, Riverside Symphony, Gary Morgan and Panamericana, jazz saxophonist, Steve Lehman, Steve Coleman, Ralph Alessi, and Don Byron, among others. Tim is on faculty at the Juilliard Pre-College, and teaches annually with the Atlantic Brass Quintet as part of their summer seminars in Sonoma, CA and Boston, MA.

As evidenced from his variety of performance styles, Tim enjoys a wide array of musical interests and influences. Counted among his favorites are: Miles Davis, Stevie Wonder, J.J. Johnson, Charlie Parker, Bach, Bartok, Joni Mitchell, My Brightest Diamond, Kneebody, Caetano Veloso, Radiohead, the Beatles, and the Alan Ferber nonet.

Tim was born and raised in St. Helena, CA. He began studying the piano at age 5, the cornet at age 8, and discovered his real love, the trombone, at age 9. He received a Bachelor of Music in trombone performance from the Eastman School of Music and has lived and worked in New York City since 1999. When not busy with his trombone, Tim loves running, kayaking, and basically anything involving the great outdoors. He also loves exploring new and delicious food around New York City and cooking at home. He lives in Brooklyn with his beautiful wife, Corrina.
