Associate Professor of Dance

Stephanie Tooman holds an MFA from the Purchase College Conservatory of Dance and a BFA from the Julliard School. She has danced with the Martha Graham Dance Company and many other companies, including Reggie Wilson Fist and Heel Performance Group, Merian Soto/Pepatian, Neta Pulvermacher, Nathan Trice and Errol Grimes. She taught many years at the Alvin Ailey School and has taught extensively internationally, including being on the faculty at the Netherlands Dance Theater, first and second companies (The Hague, The Netherlands), the Rotterdam Dance Academy (Rotterdam, The Netherlands), and the Institute del Theatre (Barcelona, Spain).
Ms. Tooman has danced and has been rehearsal director for Kazuko Hirabayashi, most notably in Tokyo at the New National Theater for Ms. Hirabayashi’s full-length Faust. She has also been rehearsal director for Neta Pulvermacher, Errol Grimes, and the Purchase Dance Company.
Ms. Tooman was awarded a Bessie (New York Dance Professional Award) in 2000 for her work with Reggie Wilson. She is an associate professor in the Conservatory of Dance.
