Nelly van Bommel

A French native of Dutch descent, van Bommel is an award-winning choreographer whose work has been featured in major festivals and venues in the U.S., France, Taiwan, and Canada. In 2010, she was selected as one of Dance Magazine’s “25 To Watch.” She graduated from University of Burgundy (France) with a Maîtrise in Comparative Literature, and moved to New York thanks to a fellowship from the Conseil Regional D'Ile de France. Upon completion of the MFA dance program at Purchase College, SUNY, she was presented with an Outstanding Graduate Award for Excellence. Ms. van Bommel is also an alumna of Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival, as recipient of a full scholarship. Her most recent residencies include Kaatsbaan International Dance Center, the Stella Adler Studio of Acting (MAD AIR), Western Michigan University Department of Dance, and the Baryshnikov Arts Center. She has been a guest teacher at the Taipei National University of the Arts in 2008 and a guest e-choreographer at Springboard Danse Montreal in 2009. Her full length Hansel and Gretel, co-produced by Ballet Austin and Nashville Ballet, premiered in February 2012.  Her most recent work, Pinguli, Pinguli, created for her company NØA DANCE, was featured at the Baryshnikov Arts Center in April 2012. In summer 2012, she was the Director of Choreography at the RDA National Choreography Intensivein Winston-Salem, NC. Upcoming projects include a full length Snow White for Ballet Austin II in spring 2013.
