CONSERVATORY OF DANCE

BFA in Dance: Performance Concentration

Students must meet all general degree requirements as well as conservatory requirements for graduation. Students in the performance concentration must:

  • complete 6 credits of Purchase Dance Company, Participation in Senior Project, and/or Participation in MFA Project.
  • register for Ballet Technique and Modern Dance Technique each semester, and complete a minimum of seven semesters of both ballet and modern technique with a minimum grade of C. (Incoming freshmen register for DPB or DPM 1230 in the fall semester and are then assigned to the appropriate Ballet Technique or Modern Technique levels.)

As a minimum technique requirement for graduation, students must complete a 3000-level course in either ballet or modern for two consecutive semesters during their last year.

Freshman Year

In addition to the courses listed above, the following are required:

  1. All men must register for men’s class and ballet partnering in at least the first two years (four semesters) of study.
  2. All men must complete at least two semesters of modern partnering.
  3. All women must complete at least four semesters of either modern or ballet partnering.
  4. All women in the ballet concentration must take Advanced Pointe every semester, in addition to the four semesters of partnering.

Updates to the 2013–15 College Catalog:

Effective Fall 2014:

  • The minimum passing grade has been changed from C- to C.
  • The senior project (formerly DPC 4990, two semesters) is now DPC 4990/Senior Project I and DCP 4991/Senior Project II.
