Tuesday, February 7
The Black Panther Party
7:00pm, Student Services Bldg., Red Room
For Black History Month, the Office of Student Life presents aprogram based on the establishment and occurrences of the days of the BlackPanther Party, who they were and how they started. Program will include clips from a documentary on Huey Newton, founder of the party, and feature a discussion moderated by Jim McElwaine, faculty member in the Conservatory of Music, on how it relates to today's world and current events.

First 2 Speaker Series: Saida Balume, 3rd Year Pace Law Student
7:00pm, Student Services Bldg., Red Room
The First 2 speaker series features a recent alum coming back to talk to first and second year students about their "first 2" years at Purchase. They will also discuss what they are currently doing and conclude the talk with a Q&A. Saida Balume is currently in her third year of law school at Pace University. While at Purchase, she was a Student Life Assistant and active in multiple student organizations.
 
Climbing PoeTree presents Hurricane Season
9:00pm, Campus Center South, Southside Lounge
A two womyn-show through spoken word, dance, and a sound collage of personal testimonies about unnatural disaster, new orleans, and a great shift in universal consciousness.  Climbing PoeTree is a respected spoken word duo from Brooklyn, NY.

African Hand Drumming and Dance

3:30pm, Dance Bldg., Studio C—Combined drumming and dance
Discover the rhythms of African hand drumming and dance through this interactive program.  Learn either drumming or dance and enjoy seeing both groups come together in an informalcollaborative session!  No experience necessary.

Blacking Up: Hip-Hop’s Remix of Race and Identity

The screening of the documentary “Blacking Up: Hip-Hop’s Remix of Race and Identity” looks at the popularity of hip-hop among America’s white youth.  An informal discussion and panel on hip hop in America will follow.
