NY-Alert Emergency Notification System
Purchase College is participating in a SUNY-wide implementation of a new emergency notification system called NY-Alert. In the event of a campus emergency, this system will be used to provide immediate notification via email, cell and desk phones, SMS text messaging, fax, and other channels. NY-Alert is a state-of-the-art ultra-high-performance system capable of pumping out millions of notifications per minute from two data centers that was developed by the NY State Emergency Management Office (SEMO). The system was launched in September 2007, and is being provided to SUNY and to Purchase College at no charge. There is no charge to cell subscribers for receipt of these notifications. This system will only be used for emergency notices.

The NY-alert system uses a text-to speech engine, and in the event of an emergency you will receive a voice call, an email, and an SMS text message. These messages will originate form the address “NY-Alert Administrator”, and will briefly state the nature of the emergency with instructions to check your Purchase Email or our Website for more detailed information.

This system will ONLY be used in the event of an emergency. Late openings or weather cancellations will continue to be communicated through normal hotline, email, web, radio and TV channels. If you provide the College with your cell phone number, we will include you in any emergency notifications:

Students: to provide your emergency contact information, please visit the Student Services page at http://studentservices.purchase.edu/ and look for the link titled View Your Student Info.

CTS is pleased to offer Unified Messaging to all resident students, faculty, and staff. What is Unified Messaging? Your voicemail messages are delivered to your email inbox as sound file attachments (as well as being delivered to your telephone in the traditional manner.) You can listen to your voicemail messages from any computer with speakers, on or off campus. Unified Messaging makes it easier and more convenient to access your voice mail from on or off campus.

To sign up for unified messaging, please contact CTS at x6465. Your account will be set up within a day or two. There is a short guide to using the “Enhanced Voice Mail” (EVM) service on the CTS web site at www.purchase.edu/cis (follow the “training Services” link on the left).
