Senior Journalism Student Helps Buzzer-Beater Video Go Viral

Have you seen the shot? That's the question swirling around sports circles this week. The video of a 55-foot buzzer beater by New Rochelle High School's Khalil Edney has gone viral and garnered attention from national media including ESPN, Good Morning America, and the New York Times.

Senior journalism major Jordan Griffith was at the game and helped the video go viral. Griffith is a reporter for MSG Varsity and his beat is high school basketball in the Hudson Valley. The sports news network was covering the game when the improbable shot was made, initially waved off, then counted allowing New Rochelle to earn the 61-60 win over Mount Vernon in the Section I Class AA final last Sunday.

Coincidentally, journalism alumnus Mike Zacchio '11, who works part-time for the Journal News, also happened to be in the audience at the Westchester County Center. He arrived early for his assignment—to cover the AA championship girls basketball game between Ossining and Our Lady of Lourdes to follow. He caught the action on his iPhone and the Journal News reporter covering the New Rochelle/Mount Vernon game, Josh Thomson, helped tweet the video.
