The Purchase College Indian Classical Music Series continues on November 17 with vocalist Sanghamitra Chatterjee, accompanied by Dibyarka Chatterjee on tabla, and sitarist Kinnar Kumar Seen, accompanied by Samir Chatterjee on tabla. The performance begins at 7 PM in the Recital Hall of the Music Building. Tickets are $20, $10 for children and college students. Sanghamitra Chatterjee is one of the leading vocalists of India in the fields of light and light classical music. Her repertoire includes Bengali modern song, songs of Tagore, songs of Nazrul, folk songs and more. She has performed as a soloist and as a group musician with Chhandayan, the Battery Dance Co. of NY, Kathak Ensemble of NY, and at the Smithsonian Institution, Columbia University, the American Museum of Natural History both in New York and Washington, Lotus Fine Arts Center, and Kansas University.
Kinnar Kumar Seen learned tabla and sitar from his father, the renowned Acharya Lachman Singh Seen of the Punjab Gharana. He has accompanied many prominent artists and received numerous international awards. He earned a master's degree in sitar as well as a Sangeet Visharad in tabla and vocal music. He teaches at the Sangeet Vilas Kinnar School of Music in Long Island and Queens, NY, and performs throughout Europe and North America.
