PURCHASE COLLEGE AFFILIATES PRESENT A SPOTLIGHT ON FACULTY LECTURE “WHAT KIND OF AMERICA DO WE WANT?” OCT. 18

The Purchase College Affiliates present a Spotlight on Faculty Lecture, “What Kind of America Do We Want—Not Just Today, but 10 Years from Now” on October 18 at 4:30 PM in Room 1064 of the  Durst Family Humanities Building. The guest speakers are Purchase College professors Lee Schlesinger, literature; John Gitlitz, political science; and Charles Ponce de Leon, history. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Purchase College is located at 735 Anderson Hill Road, Purchase, NY.

Charles Ponce de Leon is an associate professor of history in the School of Humanities whose interests include cultural and intellectual history, political history, and the intersections between politics and culture. He is the author of the recently released Fortunate Son: The Life of Elvis Presley (Hill and Wang), and Self Exposure: Human-Interest Journalism and the Emergence of Celebrity in America, 1890-1940 (University of North Carolina Press).

Lee Schlesinger is an associate professor of literature in the School of Humanities whose areas of expertise include American literature, American poetry, the Bible, and Freud and poetry. He holds a Ph.D from Yale University and a bachelor of arts degree from Brandeis University.

John Gitlitz is an associate professor of political science in the School of Natural and Social Sciences. His areas of expertise are religion and politics in Latin America; Peru; and political violence and human rights. He holds a Ph.D. and master’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a bachelor’s degree from Oberlin College.
