Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore will be the guest speaker at the inaugural John Howard Lecture on Law and Society at Purchase College, SUNY, Wednesday, October 4 at 7:30 PM in Room 1064 of the Humanities Building. She will discuss "Achieving Justice: Law in a Changing Society." The lecture is free and open to the public.
Ms. DiFiore will discuss the problems, complexities and satisfactions of pursuing justice in cases ranging from domestic violence and child abuse to homicide.
The Westchester County District Attorney since January 1, 2006, she has served as both a judge and a prosecutor. She was elected judge of the Westchester County Court in 1998 and a justice of the New York State Supreme Court in 2002, presiding over hundreds of cases. In 2003 Chief Judge Judith Kaye appointed her to serve as the Supervising Judge for the Criminal Courts in the 9th Judicial District. She is also a former Westchester County Assistant District Attorney and served as Chief of Narcotics for four and a half years.
