DENNIS CRAIG APPOINTED VICE PRESIDENT FOR ADMISSIONS/ASSOCIATE PROVOST FOR ENROLLMENT

Dennis Craig.jpgDennis Craig, Nyack, NY has been appointed Vice President for Admissions/Associate Provost for Enrollment at Purchase College, State University of New York effective July 3. In this newly created position, he will oversee all aspects of undergraduate and graduate admissions and financial aid and will serve as a member of the President’s Cabinet. 

“We welcome Dennis Craig and the leadership he will provide as a key member of the senior team that provides guidance and direction for the entire college,” said Thomas J. Schwarz, President of Purchase College.   “He brings a wealth of experience in admissions and executive management, most recently as director of admissions at Montclair State University, and I look forward to his contributions toward strengthening and expanding our enrollment efforts.”

As Associate Provost he will report to the Provost and work collaboratively with the College’s Deans and senior officers to develop and execute strategies and procedures that enhance the College’s ability to attract a highly qualified and diverse student body.

Mr. Craig will provide leadership and vision to the management of the admissions and financial aid functions with a strong enrollment staff that is student-centered and results-oriented and focused on improving the College’s current and future enrollment.  They will also emphasize the active involvement of the Purchase academic community in reaching out to prospective students and their families. Mr. Craig and his staff of 23 will bear responsibility for helping the College achieve the goals of its strategic plan.

He will also chair the Enrollment Management Implementation Team and build strong partnerships with members of the high school counseling community across the state and country to improve recognition of Purchase’s academic, artistic and intellectual excellence.

In addition, he will serve as a national spokesperson for the values of a high quality public institution that offers superb conservatory-level arts programs and outstanding programs in the liberal arts and sciences.

Prior to arriving at Purchase, Mr. Craig served as University Director of Admissions at Montclair State University for five years. His efforts increased the size of the freshman class over a four-year period and helped establish Montclair’s reputation as the second largest and fastest growing university in New Jersey.  He also implemented an enrollment marketing and recruitment plan that resulted in a 27% increase in applications. 

Mr. Craig also served as Director of Admissions at the Culinary Institute of America, where he directed all aspects of pre-enrollment programs and events for prospective students, and managed a staff of 31 who were responsible for national recruitment, enrollment marketing, new student orientation, telemarketing and database management.  His other past positions include Executive Director for Administration and Operations of the Pace University World Trade Institute, New York City; Associate Director of Enrollment Services at the New York University College of Dentistry, New York City; and Director of Admissions and Financial Aid at Fairleigh Dickinson University, Teaneck, NJ.

A graduate of the State University of New York at Plattsburgh, where he received a bachelor’s degree in business economics, he also holds a master’s degree in history from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Earlier he earned an associate’s degree in business administration from Nassau Community College.
