"What's Happening in China" today is the topic of the panel discussion which begins at 4:30 PM in Room 1001 of the Social Sciences Building. This "Spotlight on Faculty" event is presented by the Purchase College Affiliates. Admission is free. Purchase College is located at 735 Anderson Hill Road, Purchase, NY.
Professor Marjorie Miller, director of the new Purchase College Program in China at Bejing Foreign Studies University, will lead the discussion. She will be joined by Professors Renqiu Yu, Charles Ponce De Leon, Lynn Mahoney and Connie Lobur, who will describe their experiences.
Bejing Foreign Studies University is China's most prestigious school for the study of languages and has nearly 1,000 students from around the world studying Chinese and 5,000 Chinese students studying foreign languages. As part of the program, Chinese faculty members taught courses in beginning and intermediate Chinese, calligraphy, and an introduction to Chinese culture. Purchase faculty members taught courses in pragmatism and Confucianism, the history of popular culture in the U.S., constitutional law and human rights, and journalistic standards in the computer age.
The program was offered through the Purchase College School of Liberal Studies and Continuing Education.
