The music of Tito Puente, Tito Rodriguez, and Jesus Alemany will be performed at the concert by musicians from the Conservatory of Music of the Purchase College School of the Arts.
Saxophonist David DeJesus is a versatile player who is actively involved in the New York City scene. He is a regular member of the Grammy Award winning Arturo O'Farrill Afro-Latin Jazz Alliance and the Grammy nominated Bobby Sanabria Big Band and has performed with such legends as Jimmy Heath, Ray Barretto, Dave Valentine, Candido, Paquito D'Rivera, Larry Harlow the Chico O'Farrill Afro-Cuban Orchestra, the Fort Apache Band, the Village Nanguard Jazz orchestra, and the Mingus Big Band.
Through the Latin Jazz Orchestra, Conservatory students learn to play the varied styles of Latin Jazz from around the globe including the mambo, salsa, tango etc., as they enter the highly competitive world of Latin Jazz with a solid foundation to create their own Latin Jazz inspired compositions.
Mr. DeJesus, Director of the Purchase Latin Jazz Orchestra, is a Purchase College graduate with a Master's degree from the Manhattan College of Music.
