Ken Tabachnick Appointed Dean of the School of the Arts

He has extensive experience in multiple facets of the arts as an administrator, lighting designer, consultant, producer, and legal counsel.

Ken Tabachnick, New York City, has been appointed Dean of the School of the Arts at Purchase College, SUNY.  He will begin on July 1 and serve a two year term.

 

Mr. Tabachnick has extensive experience in multiple facets of the arts, having worked as an administrator, lighting designer, consultant, producer, and legal counsel.  He recently served as General Manager for the New York City Ballet.  In this position, he was responsible for managing the largest dance organization in the country, including developing its long-term strategy, cultivating relationships with trustees, and overseeing a $60 million annual budget.  His experience as a fundraiser generated approximately $15 million annually to support the New York City Ballet’s operations.

 

Prior to his time with the New York City Ballet, Mr. Tabachnick established a law firm where he represented the unique interests of performers, designers, producers, authors and filmmakers.  As a lighting designer, Mr. Tabachnick has illuminated prestigious companies, including the Paris Opera Ballet, Martha Graham Dance Company, New York City Ballet, New York City Opera, Pittsburgh Opera, Philadelphia Drama Guild and Second Stage.  He has also worked on television projects for National Geographic and PBS. 

 

He has collaborated with renowned artists such as Peter Martins, Philip Glass, Trisha Brown, Martha Graham, Desmond Brown, and Bebe Miller. In 2005, he was honored with a Bessie Award, recognizing his work with choreographer Stephen Petronio.

 

Mr. Tabachnick’s experience in the non-profit sector, connections to New York City, and stellar reputation as an arts administrator will continue the forward momentum of Purchase’s Conservatories of Dance, Music, Theatre and the School of Art+Design.
