The plot revolves around Cleante’s desire to marry Mariane.  He needs money to marry but his father Harpagon is the stingiest man in history and wants to marry the girl himself.  Only a team of clever servants, desperate lovers, and fate itself can overcome Harpagon’s epic cheapness.  But beneath the farce, Moliere dissects the corrosive effect of money on morality and society.

The Purchase Repertory Theatre presents bold interpretations of classic and contemporary plays while bringing the next generation of actors designers and technicians to the stage.  Performers are members of the Purchase College School of the Arts Conservatory of Theatre Arts & Film.
