Men's Basketball Wins The Skyline Championships

Purchase men's basketball team defeats Old Westbury. Wins Skyline Championship and first bid to NCAA Division III Basketball Tournament.

The Purchase Panthers men's Basketball team clinched the 2010 Skyline Conference Tournament. They defeated St. Joseph's College - LI, on Friday night in the semi-finals and followed with a dominating 92-79 win over top-seeded SUNY College at Old Westbury on Saturday night (Feb. 27) to win their first ever men's basketball championship since re-entering the NCAA ranks.  

Third seeded Purchase opened with a strong first -half.  Junior Marvin Billups scored 26 points while fellow junior Corey Orgias had 20 points and seven rebounds as the Panthers handed Old Westbury its first loss at home in 13 games this season. Michael McNair scored 17 points and Angel Gonzales had 5 assists. Purchase went 21 for 26 at the free throw line in the final 4:21 to seal the win.  For the game the Panthers went 30-for 43 at the time.

The team has become a championship contender under head coach Jeff Charney.
