Purchase College Announces New Faculty Members For 2008-2009

Ross A. Daly has been appointed Assistant Professor of Journalism in the School of Humanities at Purchase College. He joined Purchase College in 2007, as a visiting Assistant Professor, after spending nearly 10 years at Newsday. He has an undergraduate degree from the University of Minnesota and a Masters of Science from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.

Matthew Immergut has been appointed Assistant Professor of Sociology at Purchase College's School of Natural and Social Sciences. Since 2004, while earning his Ph.D., Immergut was a part-time lecturer at the College. He has an undergraduate degree from Prescott College, and both a Masters and a Ph.D. in sociology of religion from Drew University.

Lindy Leong has been appointed Visiting Lecturer in Cinema Studies in the Purchase College School of Humanities. This fall, she is teaching American Cinema of the '50s and Research Practicum: Silent Film. She received an undergraduate degree. in history and a masters in media and cinema studies from the University of California at Los Angeles.

Kirsten Lunstrum,
a prize-winning fiction writer, has been appointed Assistant Professor of Creative Writing in the Purchase College School of Humanities. She will be teaching Introduction to Creative Writing and the Advanced Seminar in Fiction Writing.  Professor Lunstrum received her undergraduate degree from Pacific Lutheran University and her masters from the University of California at Davis.

Diana Reinhard has been appointed Visiting Assistant Professor of History in the School of Humanities at Purchase College. This fall, she is teaching Development of the United States II and History of Popular Culture in the United States. She earned a bachelors degree in history and psychology from Loyola College, a masters. in history from American University, and a Ph.D. in U.S. history from Temple University.

Mary Alice Williams, an acclaimed broadcast journalist, has been appointed Visiting Assistant Professor of Journalism in the School of Humanities at Purchase College. She will be teaching College Writing and a new journalism course, Multiple Platform Writing. She has a bachelors degree in English and mass communications from Creighton University.

Yun Chu has been appointed Lecturer in Psychology in Purchase College's School of Natural and Social Sciences. This fall, she is teaching Learning and Memory and Social Cognition. She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of California at Los Angeles, her masters degree from California State University at Northridge, and her Ph.D. from the University of Hawaii at Manoa.

Veronica Perera has been appointed Assistant Professor of Sociology in the School of Natural and Social Sciences at Purchase College. This fall, she is teaching Research Methods and a new sociology course, Globalization, Culture, Social Change. She received her undergraduate degree from Del Salvador University and her masters in economic sociology from the National University of San Martin, both in Buenos Aires. She earned a second masters and her Ph.D. from the New School for Social Research.

Ryan Taylor has been appointed Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies in the School of Natural and Social Sciences at Purchase College. His fall course is Introduction to Environmental Science and Geographic Information Systems. He earned an undergraduate degree from Mount Vernon Nazarene College, a masters from the University of Illinois, and a Ph.D. from Oregon State University.

Kristine Potter is a Visiting Instructor of Photography in Purchase College's School of Art+Design.. This fall, she is teaching Portrait/Self-Portrait and Digital Photography II. She has an undergraduate degree in art history and photography from the University of Georgia at Athens, and a masters in photography from Yale University.

Heather Saunders has been appointed Art Librarian at Purchase College. She has masters degrees in library and information studies and in art history from the University of Toronto.

Sarah E. VanGundy has been appointed Reference and Instruction Librarian at Purchase College. She received her masters degree in library and information studies from the University of Oklahoma at Norman.
