Purchase College Presents Free Concerts in March

The Purchase College School of the Arts, Conservatory of Music presents a series of free music concerts during the month of March, featuring its accomplished students and faculty in both vocal and instrumental performances. All concerts are held in the Recital Hall of the Music Building and are free and open to the public. For more information, call 914-251-6700.

Professor Dominic Donato directs “Music from African Sources,” a concert featuring the works of Reich, Roldan, Xenakis, Levitan and student composers.

The Graham Ashton Ensemble presents “The Music of Elliott Carter: 100th birthday celebration.” The program includes Carter’s Brass Quintet, Canon for 3 and A Fantasy about Purcell’s Fantasia upon One Note, as well as Two Motets by Carlo Gesualdo, Quintetto: Variationi sul’uno corale by Petr Eben, and Fragmente aus einer Show by Hans Werner Henze.

Special Concert: New Music for Soloist Champions

Celebrating soloists and composers collaborating to break new ground. Featuring Purchase Percussion Professor Dominic Donato with Ushio Torikai, and Purchase Composition Professor Huang Ruo with pipa birtuoso Min Xiao-Fen, among others.  The concert is a project of Meet the Composer with Symphony Space, the Purchase College Conservatory of Music and Hallwalls Performing Arts Space. It is made possible by major support from the New York State Music Fund.
