The Conservatory of Music Presents Free Concerts in November

The Purchase College School of the Arts, Conservatory of Music presents a series of free vocal and instrumental concerts ranging from opera to gospel, percussion to strings, during the month of November. All the concerts are open to the public and presented in the Music Building. For more information, call 914-251-6700.

Monday, November 5
Noon Music
Voice and Opera students perform. 12 Noon, Recital Hall.

Tuesday, November 6
Pianists in Recital
Accomplished graduate and undergraduate Piano students perform. 8 PM, Recital Hall.

Thursday, November 8
African Drumming Ensemble

Students perform in this new ensemble. 8 PM, Recital Hall.

Tuesday, November 13
Chamber Jazz

A variety of ensembles from the Jazz Studies program perform an eclectic program of standard and contemporary music. 6:30 PM, Choral Hall.

Faculty Recital
Conservatory of Music faculty members Calvin Wiersma (violin), Julia Lichten (cello) and Paul Ostrovsky (piano) perform Mozart’s C Major Piano Trio, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 2 (transcribed for Piano Trio), and Brahms’s Trio in B Major, Op. 8. 8 PM, Recital Hall.

Faculty Recital
Professor Jon Klibonoff, piano, performs works by Ravel, Ligeti and the last Schubert Sonata. 8 PM, Recital Hall.

Thursday, November 15
Contemporary & Percussion Ensembles
Student ensembles perform the music of James Tenney, David Saperstein and others. 8 PM, Recital Hall.

Monday, November 19
Conservatory Faculty String Quartet

Conservatory of Music faculty Laurie Smukler and Calvin Wiersma (violins), Ira Weller (viola), and Julia Lichten (cello) present Explorations. 4 PM, Recital Hall.

Tuesday, November 20
Faculty Composers Concert
The original works of Conservatory of Music faculty are performed. 8 PM, Recital Hall.

Monday, November 26
Ensemble-in-Residence

The Graham Ashton Brass Ensemble performs Ashton’s Miniatures, Hindemith’s Morgenmusik, Pugh’s Avariations and a new student work. The Ensemble includes Graham Ashton and Mark Gould (trumpets), Ann Ellsworth (horn), and James Markey (trombone). 8 PM, Recital Hall.

Tuesday, November 27
Soul Voices Gospel Ensemble

Directed by Professor Pete Malinverni. 8 PM, Recital Hall.

Wednesday, November 28
Brass Chamber Music

Students from the Brass area perform.12 Noon, Recital Hall.

Junior Composers Concert
Original works of student composers are performed. 6 PM, Recital Hall.
