Jennifer Bakalar, a student in the Purchase College School of Art+Design, received the Best of Show Award in the 2007 Best of SUNY Student Art Show. Five other Purchase students are also included in the exhibit. The exhibition is on view in the New York State Museum in Albany through September 3, 2007.
Ms. Bakalar’s winning piece, an oil on canvas, is entitled “The Cerynian Hind.”
The 2007 Best of SUNY Student Art Show is a juried exhibition containing 75 works of art from 28 State University of New York campuses. The student artwork includes a wide range of media including drawing, ceramics, painting, printmaking, photography, digital imaging and mixed media installations.
Other Purchase Art+Design students included in the exhibition are Tyler Evans, Miranda Gandall-Danish, Amira Mednick, Nathaniel Musial and Andrew Salter.
Three SUNY students were awarded “Best in Show” and four received “Honorable Mention,” which included $1,000 and $500 awards, respectively.
Elizabeth Merena, director of the New York State Council on the Art’s Visual Arts Program, and Rachel Seligman, director of the Mandeville Gallery at Union College, served as judges of this year’s exhibit.
The Best of SUNY Student Art Show represents the best artwork from the fall and spring SUNY-wide student art exhibits, which were held during the academic year at State University Plaza in Albany.
