Purchase Repertory Theatre presents Derek Walcott’s The Odyssey, directed by Woodie King, Jr. With its inspired interweaving of Homeric Caribbean themes, Walcott’s play springs from the same imaginative sources as his epic poem Omeros. Drama Studies Lorisse Alicia Ortiz-Bentiné directs her senior project (silence), which she also wrote. Science in the Modern World Lecture Dr. David Fairhurst will discuss “The Development of a Microbicide to Combat HIV.” Dr. Fairhurst is an advisor to the International Partnership for Microbicides, a public-private partnership whose mission is to prevent HIV transmission by accelerating the development and availability of safe and effective Microbicides for use by women in developing countries. 7 PM, The Performing Arts Ctr. New Media Lecture Video artist Torsten Zenas Burns will present “Collabotronica” a selection of works by videomakers who work together and apart. These collaborative works by the Halflifers, Darrin Martin, the Foundry, Virocode and Michael O’Mallery chart a processed terrain of speculative fictions and claim them as their science. Drama Studies Steven Ringwald directs his senior project Grammy Jean’s Spaghetti Dinner, written by fellow student Ed Cress. Guest conductor Professor Pete Malinverni leads the PJO and the College’s Soul Voices Gospel Ensemble in an exploration of the African-American experience through America’s only indigenous art form, jazz.
